I'm having an issue where the lines rail profiles go invisible in hidden line view. This is both in 3D and sections/elevations. Anyone have any idea what's causing this? Also, Is there a way to stop rails at the floor slab rather than having it crash through?

Are you sure you have the railings on?

Not sure what you are asking ..." Is there a way to stop rails at the floor slab rather than having it crash through?".  Did you model those side panels as railings?  If so, they will not cut at the floor, they will run full height according to your railing sketch.  You need to model these in a different way.

Yes they are on. See highlighted area of issue in attached. The show on one side of the stair but on the other you can only see the supports, rail itself has no lines along the edge...

OK...I think I understand what is happening.  Railings are hard to do and there are many quirks that will cause problems.  In your case it is the offset of the rail from the sketch line.  Left side railings vs right side railings will expose this problem.  Click on the right side railing and use the flipper.   What happed?  You may now see the railing but are the brackets still there?  I don't have revit here to check out the solution if that is the next problem.  If I remember correctly, these brackets don't work as they should.

Tried flipping as you suggested but that doesn't seem to help. See attached.

It is the problem.  Look at the last two images you posted.

In the first one, the left side railing shows around the curve but it doesn't on the last image.   Why?  Did you flip this one as well?  Notice that the brackets on this left side show up but the railing doesn't.

I wish you had taken both images from the same location.

On both railing sketches, move the sketch lines into the stair about a foot and see what shows up.

I didn't edit the left side (assuming we're talking inside). From what I can tell, the railing is always there, and shows as a white fill, but the edge lines do not show. As you orbit around, the lines sometimes show up, hence them showing in the one image.

Attached are 3 images from the same view. I have done them as shaded so you can see where the railing is but still see that the lines round the edge don't show.

1. Original Position

2. Both rails flipped

3. Both rail lines moved 200mm inwards.

OK - Thank you, these images really help.

It is interesting that the far right image shows a bottom line for the curved railing.

What Revit is this and what updates are installed?   You can find that in the ? pulldown.  Post that data.

17.0.1099.0

20161117_1200(x64)

2017.1.1

In terms of that line showing, it seems that as you orbit round, sometimes a few of those lines show but only for a very particular orientation. It's interesting that the lines for all the flat part of the rail show.

I don't know if this is the problem or not.   I did not see it in the corrections list but I suggest you get the latest update and install it.  Here is what you should see after installation:

17.0.501.0

20160720_1515(x64)

Service Pack 2

If the update does not fix your problem and if you are on subscription, you can send the question, images and file to Autodesk and they will answer very quickly.   Usually 1-2 days.

Been trying a few things out, switching from using a top rail to a Baluster seems to have solved the problem. So looks like its a bug with top rails. Has been repoted to autodesk.
