Revit 2015.

Is there a way to lock the column width and row height for schedules?

It is really a pain to resize them all the time while working with a schedule.

I don't understand your problem, I don't feel any need to lock these.... maybe its your process that is the problem.  Please explain.

The purpose to lock them, especially for columns, is for sheet composition.

For example, if the door schedule on a sheet is 20 inches wide with borders, and I placed the details next to it with detail boxes (borders).

Then, while I was working on the schedule, suddenly one column width increased and the schedule changed to 20.25" wide, I had to resize them.

Hope this can give you the picture of my question. I know that if I can eliminate one or two side borders for my schedule, I will not have this issue. Just like you said that the process is the problem. However, I still wish to find the way to lock them.

I have never had a column increase in width on its own, you have to do that.   Only line height will increase when a value adds a return.

Thanks, WWHub!

The schedule column width does not change by itself, just when I input the information for those fields with the instant values. Sometimes, my hand was moved a little bit, the column width be dragged a hair with my hand.

I will try to eliminate the side borders, and see if that helps.

CDWdavid.   The schedule edit screen has nothing to do with the schedule formatting on the sheet.  You can move the column widths all day long and the sheeted view will remain as placed.

Hi WWHub,

Please see the attached prints.

The Project3 has the correct alignment, while I was modifiing the Door Type for Door 116, accidentally dragged the cell line and changed the column width from 0.6" to 0.623", see attached Project3-2, the alignment changed.

I worked on Revit 2015.

This is not entirely true. It used to be that way, but they changed that some versions ago (I think in 14 or 15). Now, the column sizes between sheet and schedule views are tied together.

@ David, I don’t think there is any good way to lock the column widths. You can pin the schedule on the sheet - that at least prevent messing with the schedule on the sheet, but unfortunately doesn’t have any effect on the schedule view.

All the way through Revit 2016, we never saw an association between the schedule edit screen column widths and the sheeted view.

For 2015, this has always been the way to adjust column widths on the sheet.  Note, you should always adjust right to left.

http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2015/ENU/?guid=GUID-3EB93CA1-715C-4B21-8F8D-345EF394F070

Col width in the edit schedule view can be set there.

Hi WWHub and Pijpiwo,

Thanks to both of you.

I tried both ways and of no avail. The column width on sheet still changed when the actual schedule changed.

It should be an item on the "wishlist".

Thanks again! Have a nice day!

FWIW, I can’t find any documentation on when this association was introduced for the first time. The oldest version that I still have an access to is 2016 R2, so not very old at all, and the association is already present there.

I just noticed this change the other day too. The newest version I have acess too other than 2016 is Revit 2013 and in that version the schedule column locations on the sheet do not get their position from the schedule itself. So it has happened sometime after 2013 release but it is likely more recent than that.

Currently I place detail lines on my sheets to help position the different columns althought this can be frustrating also since the little blue arrows dont snap to anything so I just eyeball it.

Here is my way.

I set up the door schedule as 20" wide in total, and recorded each column width.

When the schedule width changed, I went to the schedule, then checking every columns with my record and resizing them back to my old setting.

It was frustrating, that's why I think Revit should let us lock the schedule.
