Hello! I got a problem when using Revit 2017. I just have designed a family, and the materials and colours I have selected when designing the family, doesn't show like this when charging it into a project. View options are the same (detail level, visual style..) so I do not know what actually is happening... if anybody can help me it will be great!

thank you in advance guys!

In Revit, the project always rules.  For instance, take a material like aluminum.  Maybe in your project, you want all your aluminum to be anodized white so you set the material that way.  Then you load another family that has a material called aluminum in it and it was set at anodized bronze.  What do you think should happen?

THE PROJECT RULES.

So this means you can change the material all you want in the family but once it is set in the project, the project will over-ride the family.  You options once it is already loaded are to change it in the project, or if the material is unique to only this family, you can delete the family form the model, delete the material and now re-load it.

oook great I see what you are saying. Actually, what is happening to me, is that when creating a family, I do not have all the materials I usually have in the projects, I just got a few... so what I did is I created those materials ... but what happened is that projects is not recognizing them I understand..

Anyway, the proper point should be to have all the materials I have in the project also in the family.. how can I do this? I see there's an option saying 'Add new library' but then I cannot find the path to all libraries in order to have all the the materials...

thank you!

I think you missed the point:  THE PROJECT RULES!

"...you can change the material all you want in the family but once it is set in the project, the project will over-ride the family..."

You load the family and place it .... guess what, you have now loaded the material you created in the family..... AND THE PROJECT RULES.  CFhanging it in the family will never change it in the projecft unless you purghe the family in the project then purge the material in the project.

ok ok... yes I understand... but I mean if in the family, as well as in the project, i have the typical materials, the project is going to recognize them when i'll load whatever I did in the family there... anyway... what I need to know is the route, the path where I can find the libraries so I just can add materials into the family or into the project... where is it? or whenI create a new material in a family, where is it saved?

thank you a lot for your help!

The material is in the project, there is no material library that you should maintain.  You can bring materials in with families, copied elements or use the transfer project standars.

Ok but, what I would like to have, is all the materials that I have when I open a new project, having all them also when opening a new family! I only got this ones when I open a new family...  Cryingattached picture)
