Hello everyone,

I've been trying to make a material for rendering purposes that looks like illuminated onyx. I have tried over 60 different varations and haven't come to anything I find satisifactory so I am turning to forums for help. I tried messing around with material: transparecny, refractions, self illumination, image fade, bump images, photoshopping texture images, playing with light fixtures light intensities, type of light definition, and more but nothing have come close to what I want. I am aiming for something like the image titled Example 1... The other is my best result thus far.

Get a medium to high level scan of the Onyx material from the supplier or from their website. In Photoshop create a white image, create the grid as seen in the images you sent and then copy into the grid squares between the gridlines the Onyx images you got. Randomly place them to make it look real. Ensure the image will look correct when it repeats in the X and Y directions by showing a boundary line to only one side ( left or right and up or down). Import into Revit to create a new texture. Set the scale of the image in Revit to suit the size of the grids. You can then adjust transparency or use self-illumination option.

Already tried that, and the problem is not getting the image I want but rather in putting the correct transparency/self illumination values. Thank you though.
