Has anyone seen this error and know what is a remedy? I have recieved a model created in Revit 2016 and I am trying to upgrade the model to 2017. I am promted to save locally since this is a central file that the senders uses. This is the error I get:

Revit has experienced an unexpected error.  The operation has been cancelled to protect your project from corruption.

Why are you upgrading a file you received from someone else? You should never upgrade someone elses work. The person who created the file should be the one to upgrade it.

You get the notice when saving or when upgrading?

You should be saving to a new central.  This file is looking for that information and can't find it.  If you think you will be getting new files from thse folks, then marmiketin is correct.   You need to have them do the upgrade.

I have a 2017 and the model being sent to me is in 2016. I am consulting on this project and the firm that created the file has the earlier version. after recieving the transmittal and downloading the file, I tried to open the file and this is when the error occurs. I know that when opening I disassociate the central file from the creators server and save locally on my hardrive/server. I am upgrading the file so I can do my work.

I would do the work in 2016.  Every license supports 3-4 versions.
