Hello all,

I'm new to Revit and I'm under pressure to learn it pretty quickly for my job. I'm doing pretty well so far with learning, so hopefully this isn't too tricky of a query.

I'm trying to get my head around a problem I'm having with wraps at the ends of both my walls and my roof. There's two screenshots attached to demonstrate the problems.

Firstly, with the walls. The walls we have are CLT panels. They will be butted up against each other then fixed in situ on site. The external insulation will then wrap around the corners. However, as you can see from my first screen shot, I'm having a situation where they're joining. I've sketched in red/blue what they should be like.

The problem with the roof is something similar. We plan on having the roof CLT structure stop at the exterior face of the CLT section of the wall, with the roof insulation wrapping around to meet the rising external wall insulation. The tricky part about that is the roof finish does not wrap. So I'm struggling with getting the roof insulation and finish to extend beyond the CLT, and then the rising wall insulation to meet that extension. As you can also see, I need to get the external finish and air gap to stop a bit below the top of the wall, as we have a special trim piece going there. I've marked in red and blue what I'm trying to achieve.

Any help would be much appreciated!

N

Revit was not created to solve every type of construction.  Your needs are unique but there are things you can do but they are not easy for a new user.

The first thing to do is read your help on wall joins.  Start with this one:  http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2014/ENU/?guid=GUID-19EAF7A9-331F-4271-94CC-43B76B13011E

Although this may not be your solution for walls, you need to understand this. http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2014/ENU/?guid=GUID-1CCD1005-CBDA-4338-8D60-489095D4BB25  This might help your wall roof issue.

Thanks for those! The second one was definitely a help

With the walls, I think the problem might be that the main wall structure - the CLT - is made up of 3 layers. When I try the wall join types, I end up with a series of 3 staggered butt joints. Having spoken to a colleague, they said "We can clean that up later." so for the moment, I'm still stuck.

I did get a little bit closer with the roof. By removing the constraints on part of the wall, I could bring it up to the desired height of the roof, but then there's still a problem getting the roof to match up.

You may want to change your wall layer lock to only pull up the 'skin' layers and have the roof extend over the wall structure.

Sometimes, these 'automatic' solutions are not the answer you need and you end up using in-place voids or sweeps.  Roof/wall sweeps at roof edges are very typical solutions.

Always be aware of when you ned to model something.   If it is required for material/BIM registry, that is one need.  If it i only visual, that is something else.  Most small scale plans don't show all the wall layers hand hatches.  Detail plans can be altered using the 'cut profile' tool.

Hooray! so for the purpose of the relevant view, cut profile works fine. I would prefer it to be modeled correctly, but as a work around, this works.

Thanks again for the help!
