our structural consultant likes the floor plan backgrounds to only show the stud layer of the wall. is there an efficient way of doing this? right now I am exporting to dwg and in AutoCAD I am deleting all the lines that represent either the sheathing or finish layer. which is very time consuming.

In a temp file, cross all of the walls to select and set them all to center of core for placement.   Now swap them all for a wall that is only stud and export.

What I posted above is not a good Revit process but it works for CAD guys I guess.   The problem is changes... the process has to be repeated.   A good Revit process (altough maybe more time consuming) would be to pretend you are the consultant working in Revit.   Create a new structural file and link in the arcitectural model.   Now Copy/Monitor the architectural walls using a structural wall that is only the studs.   This file can be easily updated and exported to CAD.

With my first answer, it doesn't matter how many wall types, just core size.   Obviously it does matter if you use the copy monitor approach.
