I have a steel structure where the columns are 300x300mm steel I-section with mineral wool insulation covered with plaster making it total 460x460mm square columns. I have placed the columns as bare steel and now want to edit the type to be covered as described above. Please advise on the possible solution. Family editor? Any thoughts and comments are appreciated.

The column should stay as a steel structural element. The surround should be a seperate family. Remember, not ever nut/screw and bolt needs to be modeled. In this case a family could be built that gives you the plaster skin but the rest of the interior should be annotative / 2D elements that show up correctly in plan views.

Thanks for the help. I created 2 extrusions in family editor and got something that looks similar to what I wanted. But do you think I am going the right way? It appears my approach is very simplistic. Is it possible to have materials for this extrusions?
