Revit 2017

Hello, is there any particular reason why a sketch in place monolithic stair would automatically change your input selection of a top contraint to a different level from the one selected?

My process was this. I have selected the base constraint of this stair to be my "grade" level then selected "ground" level to be my top contraint, in no unique process then how I have always done this, yet in the very same instant "literally" as I select the top constraint, Revit automatically switches it to a different level that exists within my project. To expand further, this level Revit is automatically snapping to is called "ground front entrance" and is located between the grade level and ground level (so between the two levels I selected for the contraints of this stair). Normally if there is any issues pertaining to the approriate riser height/number of stairs I have sketched, Revit will display an error message informing you this is the case, but in my circumstance (if that even happens to be the issue) it does not allow me to select the level first before it displays the error message. It just simply intsantly switched my selection as if I never even selected it to begin with... Furthermore, I have adjusted various tread heights and sketched in different combinations of stairs to riser height imputs to see if that allowed me to select the "ground" floor level yet this has not yeilded any success. I have also been sketching my stairs in the ground floor plan view, reference plane is set to "ground floor" obvs, ground floor entrance level is not pinned, for whatever any of that information may be worth.

And for the record I realize I can simply set offsets appropriately as a workaround to this issue, but I would rather understand this program then accept my misunderstanding of it. So this would not be considered a true solution for me.

Please if someone can shed some light on this issue it would be much appreciated.
