Hello,
Recently i have noticed that when editing text that when you higlight it and start typing nthing happens. you first have to hit backspace to erase the text. used to just be able to highlight and over right. is this something new to 2017.
Pete
running revit 2017 on windows 10.

I've noticed this in Revit 2017 as well. Bit annoying even though the work-around is simply to backspace first then begin typing.
It's taking some getting used-to for the new text editor in Revit 2017.

I actually think this is a good addition. It used to happen all the time before that when you enter into a text box it randomly sometimes automatically select all existing text and then you would start typing and it would overwrite when you did not want that to happen. Now with having to first backspace it makes it so this doesnt happen randomly but only when you want it too. Also in most cases you need to add to text boxes and not replace all the text.

Any update to this? For several of my coworkers, this works like it used to (also like it does in every other computer program, ever). For me and some others, it still has this glitch (and it is a glitch, not an addition. Revit did used to be trigger happy to select entire text boxes upon opening, but the solution would be to make it less trigger happy, not to remove a basic function that is standard with literally every other program out there). We're all running the same version of 2017, with the same updates, so I'm not sure why it would be different for different users.

JB27: Think about what you wrote: "... For several of my coworkers, this works like it used to..." << If that is true, it is not a program issue.

WWHub, that's not necessarily true. I have experienced program issues many times before that do not happen to every user, as have others. This issue doesn't happen in any other program. There do not appear to be any options to set a preference on this anywhere in Revit, and other users are still experiencing it. Although only certain users have this issue (which is consistent with how it's been since it first arose), I don't see anything else that would suggest that it's an external issue. In addition, there are users on other sites who had this problem, and it went away with the updated versions of Revit 2017.1 or 2017.2. Sounds pretty reasonable that it could be a Revit issue.
At any rate, I'm interested in a solution to the problem, wherever it may lie. Ruling out Revit issues entirely seems unfounded. However I'm open to any ideas out there. Just saying it can't be Revit isn't much help unfortunately.

It is Revit issue and I am tired of having to always check or re-typing things over and over again when I forget about it.
So anyone got any solution or work around on this?

I also noticed that another work around may be to move the mouse after realeasing the button from highlighting. I noticed that sometimes I would have the issue of the OP, but other times I wouldn't. I finally figured out that it only happened if I didn't move my mouse after highlighting. As soon as you move your mouse after releasing the button, you can start typing, and it will overwrite the highlighted text. It's something that you may not notice that you do. JB27, that may also explain why some users don't have the issue.

Excellent. This has been wrecking my head for ages. But this simple solution works, just move the mouse. Cheers
