AS YOU KNOW THERE ARE TWO ELEVATION MARKERS, ONE FOR EXTERIOR ELEVATIONS AND ONE FOR INTERIOR ELEVATIONS. AS THEY BOTH FUNCTIONALLY PERFORM THEIR ROLES, THEY SEEM TO DEVIATE FROM STANDARD AIA CONVENTION OF HOW THEY SHOULD LOOK.
THE EXTERIOR ELEVATION IS SQUARE WITH A TRIANGLE WHICH IS SUITABLE. HOWEVER THE SHAPE IS NOT TYPICAL FOR WHAT IS USUALLY DRAWN BASED ON AIA CONVENTION FOR SYMBOLOGY. IT WOULD BE NICE IF THERE WAS ANOTHER OPTION FOR A STANDARD AIA FAMILY SYMBOL.
THE INTERIOR ELEVATION GRAPHIC IS HOWEVER CORRECT EXCEPT THAT IT ALSO DISPLAYS THE VIEW NAME ALONG WITH THE VIEW NUMBER. THIS IS A PROBLEM IN THAT VIEW NAMES ARE NOT TYPICALLY SHOWN ON PLANS BUT RATHER ON THE SHEET WHERE THEY ARE PLACED. THE VIEW NAME TAKES UP VALUABLE SPACE ON THE PLANS ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU PLACE AN INTERIOR SYMBOL WITH ALL FOUR POINTERS. I AM QUITE SURE SOMEONE OR MANY HAVE COME ACROSS THIS PROBLEM AND I WISH THERE WAS A METHOD TO TURNING THE VIEW NAME LABEL OFF.
PLEASE FIND ATTACHED A PDF THAT SHOWS THE DIFFERENCE FROM WHAT IS IN REVIT AND WHAT SHOULD TYPICALLY BE USED.
I WOULD ASSUME THAT IT WOULD BE QUITE EASY FOR THE REVIT DEVELOPMENT TEAM TO GENERATE THE CORRECT SYMBOLOGY GRAPHICALLY AND STILL GATHER THE DATA THEY NEED TO MANAGE THESE VIEWS.
IF ANYONE AGREES OR HAS SOLUTIONS I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR BACK ON THIS. I HAVE SUBMITTED THIS ISSUE TO AUTODESK.
THANKS

Coreed,
Very nice, very very nice!!! That is a very nice method and it creates it's own separate browser folder which is clear to read and by virtue of taking the standard Revit elevations off the drawing that folder is history.
VERY GOOD SOLUTION!!!

I agree that the elevation tags are anemic to say the least. I like the solution for the elevation tags for exterior use, but there is some benefit to having the Interior elevation tag as it is in Revit. One nice feature is the ability to have one tag represent multiple views. This does decrease clutter. This is a somewhat useless feature for exterior elevations as this feature is rarely needed.
You can turn off the view name displayed with the elevation tags by going to "Settings", "View Tags", "Elevation Tags". Change the type to 1/2" Circle. Under the "Type Parameters" box, you can check and uncheck various settings, including view number orientation and view title display.
