.... Arent complaints like this along the same lines of 'oh I wish we still used colours to show lineweights'? With such a massive array of 3D views, cutaways and shadow options - you guys are complaining about needing lineweights to show depth? Perhaps Revit is attempting to do things differently? And perhaps its a Royal waste of time for the Lords of Revit to be trying constantly to be emulate old programs because 'but I can do that in AutoCAD' people arent happy with using the program to its strengths? While I completely agree that lineweights are the single greatest tool in depth defining and a thousand other tasks in 2D drafting, I think it pays to realised that this is a strength of a program based on lines - and a very akward degeneration for a 3D based modelling program to need to achieve. And it doesnt (need to achieve), you look at a set of plans from an experienced Revit user and Im sure the last thing you'll be wanting is more depth. Perhaps the answer is to experiment a little more with shadow casting and sillouette line styles (under advanced model graphics), and start figuring out the tools Revit has given us to show depth before we say that there is 'no way to show depth in views'?

i know this post goes back a while but i aproach the section/elevation linweight for dept option differently than using the line work (altough i still use it at times.) i have attaced a pdf with a small tutorail on how i do it. there are 2 small problems with the way i do it. (basically using multible section) but i'v sent them to autodesk in a wish list to be fixed. i would appriciate your thoughts on this as i know its a big problem for a lot of people and the tool that we are all looking for (screening by distance) is not in 9.1 or is not in development fo version 10 or so im lead to believe.

Lineweight simulates 3d in a 2d world. Put in 3d views to describe the work.
