I have never been able to use Open GL hardware accelartion setting because my graphics card purports to support it but revit has many problems when using that setting, as a revit dialog window warns may happen when you select it... (settings->options->graphics)
My card is an NVIDIA Quadro FX 1400, I installed the latest "Autocad certified" driver.
[1] Can other users tell me what cards they have and if they are working well with OpenGL?
[2] does having OpenGL on fix the problem I have a lengthy forced refreshes when shadows are on?
[3] other benefits to OpenGL?

I have the same card.
you can spend $$$$ on a card but you will see no benefit in Revit just yet. the problem is that the card manufactures don't get the info they need from revit in order for openGL to work!
this might take a while...
pissed me off for a while there
