I am creating a new light fiiting. Under the family types I can apparently enter an ies data file name. However when I enter a file path under the formula heading (the only field I can enter data into) I get the error meassage "the following is not a valid family parameter" Does anyone know how to use this parameter?

I should 1 ask you if you an administrator, you will not be able to do this if not and 2 what revit are you using? arch mep? If you are using arch, your sol in the 2008 version. The following is if you are using mep 2008.

you only have to put the exact name of the *.ies file in for the value. this is case sensitive. then you have to move the ies file to your ies lookup folder. by default it is pointing to your hd but if you have a network install and everyone in your office is keeping them in one spot, here is how to chck this. drill down your program files folder untill you get to revit, then open the program folder, then double click on the file that is called revit.ini you will see a string that is starts off with "IESFileLocation=" if you notice the path that it is specifying this is where you should put your ies files, or you can change the path to your network, just remember you move that folder, change the drive letter, do any you must change it in here. Now another point to realize, you must restart revit before these changes will take affect. hth.
