to make a traditional curved eave, I created a roof fascia with the desired curve. When I ad a fascia, it follows the curve, so far so good. then (pic#2) when you put the fascia on the straight edge the trouble starts. Suggested fix? You can't split the fascia I guess I could separately draw a solid extrusion but this wouldn't be part of the roof

Well unfortunately this site is still having issues and wont let me view your attachment. But attempting to place a fascia on multiple edges of an arched roof (curved and flat) works fine here... Is the fascia profile you're using complex at all?
Are you applying the fascias in one sketch? That is they are one entity not a series of separate entities for each edge?
