quite a strange one this.... all our door families have been set up and loaded into our project. the funny thing is that the automatic dimensions that appear when you insert or select the door default to the nearest partitions on the wrong side of the door..... every time!

i dont know if i have described this well, so i have attached 1no. screen shot which shows how it is currently defaulting and i have also attached 1no. screen shot where i have dragged the dimensions to the correct sides.

this might seem like a small problem on the face of it, but when you are dealing with a project with hundreds of doors, it saves a lot of time being able to place a door and immediately being able to select a dim to position it correctly, rather than having to manually drag the dims over to the correct partitions.

i am using revit architecture 2014.

thanks,

kieran

It likely has to do with the family itself and where the right and left side reference planes are located. Also why do you have the parameters for frame thickness of that door family set as instance and not type?

thanks for that. it is as simple as that... the 'is reference' parameter in the door family is applied to a reference plane that is on the left hand side of the door. D'OH!

regarding the instance parameters. it's a good question and one that i am constantly battling the BIM team with. most parameters are becoming instance driven and not type driven, for example fire ratings etc. it is going to be difficult when we come to linking in the NBS plug-in, which automatically adds in NBS type parameters

thanks again

in the door family, the 'is reference' parameter has 'right' selected in a reference plane that is on the left hand side of the door. D'OH!... i think that makes sense
