Have downloaded a handful of Bobrick toilet accessories though this issue has been experience with many other similar families. They are all Work Plane-Based Specialty Equipment families and can only be placed into the project via elevation or section views. This becomes quite cumbersome for large public toilet rooms of Assembly use buildings where many walls and equipment is required. Does anyone know how to revise the family to allow for floor plan view wall-based placement much like wall-hung sinks, wall-hung urinals, etc.?

Ive never even heard of 'Speacialty Equipment work plane based'. I only know of 'Specialty Equipment' and 'Specialty Equipment Wall Based'. Is that a Revit MEP family type?

I've attached the file as directly downloaded from Bobrick. It upgrades from Revit Architecture 2011. The work around I'm using is to create a new wall-based family and import the family. Problem there is I lose all the different sizes available. I understand the work-plane basis so it can be placed most anywhere, but with 95% of our installations being on walls I'm trying to save a second file for that.

That still doesn't let me insert in the floor plan view.

i think you will have to put it as a hosted family in a wall based template and actually thats how the urinals and wall hung families work

It would seem Bobrick went for the more general 'non wall-based' family for the mirror so that it can be placed on anything without realizing you have to be in a view which shows the face in order to place it. Quite annoying.
Elnazer is right. you need to nest this family into a wallbased family so it can be placed in plan.

Thanks all, the wall-based family with nested item is the way I've gone. Not the cleanest method but it is definitely easier than cutting sections/elevations for every surface that's to receive toilet accessories.

We typically have these items in a group (excluding walls). We place the group and the face based items find their new hosts.

The Bobrick family you provided, loads correctly for me – in any view – as long I pick the correct hosting option upon placing an instance of it: “Place on Face” or “Place on Work Plane”. Can’t figure out why you’re losing all the different sizes since there is no Type Catalogue. By that I mean: all the sizes are defined within the family…so they should all load with the family. They did for me.

Usually I download the families from manufacturers and modify them per our need.
Using this Bobrick mirror for example, it has to be placed on the elevations, which is very cumbersome; another thing is the placement height is to the outside edge of the frame, the ADA/CBC is to the reflecting surface.
I modified the "Raw" families, and made them can be placed on the plans, also the placement height is to the reflecting surface by adding a parameter. Yes, a little bit more work, but worthy.
