I am trying to create a wall railing using the 'pipe-wall_mount' family, however when i set my hand clearance to its required value (100mm), the railing appears inside the wall, with the supports facing inward. This happens regardless of wether i set the position to left or right (or both).

How do I fix this?

Railing location is defined by the railing sketch in plan view.

I don't understand how or what your 'pipe-wall_mount' family is.  Revit provides some stock railing mounts you can use within the railing process and you can create your own but they are not a wall based family.  They are railing based.

Its a system family as far as I'm aware, as I've never had a need to download or use something like that before. It's still railing sketch based, but the sketch line follows the wall and the handrail is offset by a clearance parameter (which is the part which wasn't working) with the mounts being on the wall (ie along the sketch line).

Not relevant for me now as I ended up putting the supports in manually as generic models (already had the handrail in place separately) as my client needed it quickly.

I'd still be intrigued to see if anyone else has seen / solved this issue in the past though, in case I come across it again
