Hello,

I have made a generic model family and tried to apply a material to it. (Creating a new material and renaming it, and adding a image of a texture), when i go to the 3d view (Realistic) the materials look perfect. When i load the family into the project and go to a realist view, the materials are way different. Proceeding to render the view, the materials still aren't good.

Can anyone help.

I have attached 2 screen shots, the first is the "Screen" that i have created in the family edit mode with a walnut texture applied. The second screen shot shows a 3D view in the project with the "Screen" showing as a grey texture in realistic.

In Revit, the project always rules.  For instance, take a material like aluminum.  Maybe in your project, you want all your aluminum to be anodized white so you set the material that way.  Then you load another family that has a material called aluminum in it and it was set at anodized bronze.  What do you think should happen?

THE PROJECT RULES.

So this means you can change the material all you want in the family but once it is set in the project, the project will over-ride the family.  You options once it is already loaded are to change it in the project, or if the material is unique to only this family, you can delete the family from the model, then delete the material from the project and now re-load the family.
