I'm trying to figure out a way to have my trees in my site plan look realistic. I have tried a few things but so far nothing has worked. I would like to keep my visual style as Consistent Colors and show a realistic tree with some shadow. I attached an image similar of what I am looking for. Thanks for any help!

I thought you might be able to do it from a realistic view but the tees go away.
If you are only using Deciduous trees, you could edit the "Deciduous Base" family then using a realistic view - top orientation, you will have the tree shadows like my image below. NOTE: I obviously left that simple base.

I tried editing it and I couldn't get it to work.

I could do some 3D lines on an elevated work-plane in a special sub-category and that would show up but I could not get rid of the base pointer for the tree. I could lower the tree so the bas pointer disappeared. Image below is what I did... I did not take any time with this - just some splines that I mirrored around in the base family.
The problem now is the pointer base.

I'll have to take a look into it more. Seems like it should be easier than this!

Will the tree in the downloads work for you? I haven't used that one in a long time:
