So I'm trying to make a really simple fill pattern that I can use to represent form lines in concrete. We want to use a spacing pattern of 6" and 4" and we want the lines to be vertical. If that maade sense, pretty much we are going to stagger 2x6's and 2x4's side by side to give our concrete a nice vertical pattern.

Where the trouble lies is making the .pat file to do this and seem to be running into nothing but problems here, i have spent that last 3 hours watching videos and reading forms as to what i need to do and what i might be doing wrong and at this point i hit a dead end and got really frustrated.

So i built multiple .pat file and a lot of the time for one reason or another that i cannnont explain its coming in as [No "drafting" type patterns found] although i have a [;%TYPE=DRAFTING] in my file, and when i i do get something to finally come in it shows up as blank.

heres whats in my file...

this one comes in blank

*CUSTOM 4 6,  4 6 CONCRETE

;%TYPE=DRAFTING

90,             0,             0,             0,             10

90,            6,             0,             0,             10

this one ays no "drafting type found

*CUSTOM 4 6,  4 6 CONCRETE

;%TYPE=DRAFTING

90,             0,             0,             10,             0

90,            6,             0,             10,             0

Please help i dont understand what im doing wrong.

Try just this

*CUSTOM 4 6,  4 6 CONCRETE

90,             0,             0,             10,             0

90,            6,             0,             10,             0

Its usually better to make it as a model pattern so you might want to do this

*CUSTOM 4 6,

;%TYPE=MODEL

90,             0,             0,             10,             0

90,            6,             0,             10,             0

The problem has nothing to do with model or drafting pattern, it is in your numbers.   I will suggest that you want this to be a model, not a drafting pattern.

The attached is a good explanation for patterns.   I did not create this and I do not know who posted it on-line.

THIS MUST BE A SIMPLE TXT FILE SAVED WITH .PAT EXTENSION - NO FORMATTING.

To: WWHub - thanks a lot thats by far the best info for creating .pat files ive seen all morning, super informative and clear  to read and your right about my numbers being wrong.

To: marmiketin1 - Thanks much i tried yours directly and it was still saying that it could not find a model pattern, but once i put the spacing in between the numbers it worked fine

Thank you both very much for being quick and responsive i think my biggest issue was trying to do this as a drafting instead of a model pattern because i had it right in my first go around it just needed to be model instead of drafting
