Hi guys,

The company I work at is in the process of sorting out our working standards to BIM Level 2 and as part of this we have one member of the company renaming every single revit library file to the uniclass classifications.

For example:

'S-Ss_20_20_75_80 - SteelBeamSystem - Universal Beams.rfa'

There are thousands of files to rename and I think this is a waste of time and resource. Does anyone know if you HAVE to rename every single file?

No, generally not for BIM Level 2. Unless a client states they wish it delivered this way in the AIM as stated in the EIR.

What he is doing is a waste of resource, unless of course you want to waste resource - in which case it is a perfect waste of resource.

When a client states that they want their BIM model delivered in 6D to integrate with their Building Management System, or a contractor wants 4D or 5D BIM to process quantities and time then yes maybe, but generally it is not necessary. 4D/5D & 6D are extras above and beyond what normal BIM delivery expects. A client is expected to pay extra for this and I am yet to see a client want to pay for it. To be honest, I am yet to see Client's pay extra for the BMS's that will work with an all bells and whistles BIM model.
