Wondering if someone out there can help me? I have been trying to find out what the problem is for two days now. In a nutshell, I am creating an electrical plan for a 3 level residence, and the first two levels have been fine. However, trying to place switches and outlets on the 3rd level have been frustrating in that the symbols do not show up! When inserting the component into the plan, all I get is the crosshair symbol, but not a preview of the outlet or 'S' of the switch as is normal. However, the switch and outlet can be seen once the hidden view reveal toggle is activated, so they are in there and show the swtich and outlet in halftone gray (like all other unhidden items) and not red like the hidden items - still, when toggling off from reveal hidden, the objects are not there. I have literally tried everything! From painstakingly comparing the Visbility/Graphics Overrides from levels where everything is working fine (i.e. all the electrical fixtures boxes are checkmarked) to Property settings, View Range, and Graphic Display Options - all the parameters are matching - yet the elements remain invisible in regular mode and appear unhidden in reveal hidden elements mode. I am at the end of my rope with this. Relatively new to revit, but I understand the view options pretty well and cannot seem to figure out why this is happening. Please see attached screenshots that show the switch and outlet in reveal hidden elements mode and then in regluar view where they are just not here anymore! Anyone know what is going on here? I am truly perplexed.

It souds like the category has been hidden in view.  Reveal hidden elements, find one of the red items, right click and pick unhide category in view.

BTW - This is a USER issue - not a Revit problem.

Thank you for you reply WWHub. Right clicking on the outlet (in the Reveal Hidden Elements mode) and choosing Unhide in View only allows By Filter... option to be chosen (there are no filters employed in this view) - the  Unhide Elements and Catagory options is greyed out and unavailable to me when trying to unhide. I did not hide these categories in this view.

I am well aware that this is in most likelyhood a user and not a REVIT issue - but I am unable to find a resolution to the problem. Like I said, I painstakingly went through comparison of view and graphic settings in the electrical plan levels that are viewing correctly to make sure there were no inconsistencies and feel like I have tried everything possible - leaving my last resort to post in this forum.

Try this - Open the view where the items show, then from the view tap, pick the view templates and pick "create view template from current view".  Now open the view where the items and right don't show and from the view tab, pick view templates and then choose "apply template...." and pick the template you created.   Using this process will assure that all VG settings and other view settings will be the same in both views.

It is really hard to compare views... that's why we have view templates.

I already tried this before posting here  - used the level 2 view to create a templace called Electrical Plan View - went back to level 3 and changed View Template in the Identity Data to the saved template - no avail Sad

Wait! I went through the procedure you described using the view tab - and it worked!

Thank you WWHub!

We have very limited information here.  Many times, these are annotative objects but sometimes, you guys are using a model element with a nested annotative element.  If it is annotative only the it only exists in the view it was placed in and will be on top of all model elements.   Otherwise, the object may be hidden in view or out of view range...

AND - If the category for the model element is off then the annotation will not show.   But you have assured us that you have checked this out by template.

Could it be a corrupt view - sometimes but this is seldom.  If it is a model element, create (don't copy) a new floor plan from the view tab. (Uncheck the little box!)  Now see what's there.
