I have loaded an image into the decal types and tried to place it in my model. When placed the decal is all black. I thought it might be a problem with the file size or type and when I have adjusted them it still remains black. How do I get my decal to show up properly?

Open Image in an editing software like Photoshop of Paint and ensure all layers are flattened. Try saving it as an RGB file JPG, or try alternative image file type like bmp.
In Revit with the image linked in, check in the decals link tool to ensure the image can be accessed by Revit from wherever you have it saved on your computer or server.

Thanks a lot. It was an issue where I needed to simply link the photo under the manage tab.
Cheers,
