I like to use a 3D object which represents my Low Voltage Electrical Room so I can create a 3D riser diagram showing conduit connections between each room. Also, I can shade in the room automatically in every plan view. Right now I create an in-place Data Device family, and create an extrusion of the room, and give it a height of 8'-0". I have the Architects model linked in. Is there a better way to do this? I would like to create a Family that can be imported into each project and adjusted.

One idea that comes to mind are some external plug-ins that we use in our office that can convert room objects to 3D masses. I found something similar from case (awesome resource by the way) that might inspire a solution for you:
