I have looked up a lot on this subject about what the best method was going to be for a CD package. There are four main ways Wall Reviles, In-Place Void Family, Model Lines, and a Line Based Family.

Wall Reviles and an In-Place Void Family are the way to go for rendering because they are an actual 3D object. For 2d elevation, however they are not good because you cannot control the line weight. It will only allow the line weight to be that of the cut wall pattern. In my project we have control joints, of two sizes and decorative. The three different types need to be distinguished somehow.

Model Lines would work however there are a lot of different faces. This method would require the work plane to be manually switched for almost every line. So doable but would take a long time.

Line Based Family would allow for you to draw on face (no manual switching work plan). This seemed like the best option however they will not stay put. Every day they have mysteriously moved and or disappeared. Some of them will stay even ones on the same plane. Does anyone have some insight on why the line based family keeps moving? I pinned them all this morning after moving them back into place. I will let you know if this works.

Thanks for your help,

Why not a face based void family in int's own sub-category?   Then you could change the lineweight as you please.

If I am understanding you correctly using the object style to control the family does not seem to work ether.

I just created a new basic face based void family and loaded it into a new project. None of the object styles come from the void family because it has no geometry just a void. I can change the generic model object styles (in the project) but the wall lines are drawn over the top of it.

Thanks for the reply

Sorry, my mistake, you are correct except .... add symbolic lines to the void family.  They will be available in your 2D elevations.
