I am trying to create a basic Y/N parameter to make a nested family visible or not visible based on which family type is selected. I have tried many different equations and the parameter is associated with the family I want to control, but nothing I have done is working. I am using Revit 2014. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I’m assuming you have some families already loaded to the parent family. Highlight the family you want to control visibility, in the properties window you have ‘visible’ parameter already setup, now you need to associate it with the object. Click little rectangle to the right and set up your parameter (it is already yes/no). In the family types window, create new family type(s) and check or uncheck your newly created visibility parameter.
If you still having problems, can you upload your family? It would be easier to troubleshoot that way.

It's very important to have the yes/no parameter you associate the visibility with is a INSTANCE paramter, or else it is going to be controlled within the family file, or type based, instead of within the project. It allows more freedom, and you do not have to get into different types. It comes down to preference i guess. Hope it helps.
