Hi all,

Apologies for first post being a question but here goes:

Does anyone actually use span direction symbols when also using dependant views? Or is there something else I’m missing here?

In attached ‘Fig 1’ shows my slab highlighted along with the 2 dependant view crops.

Also in Fig one you can see a blown up area showing a pretty standard ‘Annotation Crop Symbol’.

As you can see in the parent view this looks fine, however in the Dependant view all these tags disappear (Fig 2).

After looking around I realise that you cannot tag a slab which sits partially outside the cropped view (which is pretty poor tbh).

The workaround we used was just to use ‘Slab Tags’ instead. Which, of course, will not update as the span of the slab changes… which seems to be missing the point a bit.

My real question is – am I drafting this incorrectly or was it foolish of me to attempt to use the span directions in the first place?

I am using Revit 2015 ‘Suite’

Any help greatly appreciated,

Dave

Almost all tags default to the center of elements but they typically can be moved or placed away from the center by using the free-end option.

Hi WWHub,

Thanks for the reply – however span directions don’t work like, say, a beam Tag,

They don’t have the option of ‘Free End’ Please see my attached image for the options whilst having the ‘Span Direction Symbol’ selected.

Either way – I was not having a problem getting the span direction to the correct place on plan I was having a problem with it showing up on a dependant view. As Fig 1 & 2 should show in my original post. Like I said I think the problem comes that my slab spans across the annotation crop. Although I can’t see any logic in having ALL the spans disappearing when this is the case?

This just seems like such a basic bug that I was wondering what workarounds other people use?

Thanks
