Hi Everyone!

Need some help, Im creating an existing church tower in revit for my boss and I came across this problem and was wondering how I could work around this situation.

Im creating a generic model wall based family for a gothic arch I have around the door. Here's my problem I started creating an extersion in plan view and now I want to create another extersion but it needs to be created in placement view and revit won't allow me to do this because i've already created the family in plan view. Could someone please help explain to me why this happens and how can I work around this?

Thanks!

NOT TRUE!   Edit the family then reset your work plane.

Don't worry! did some research and seen that I could set my work plane to wall edge which will allow me to create my extersion in my front elevation

Thanks for your help!

An in-place and a normal family can be made up of multiple forms - each with their own work-planes.

For your in-place family:

  1. Edit the family -DON'T EDIT YOR PREVIOUS EXTRUSION!
  2. Switch to the appropriate view
  3. Pick edit work plane - (You may want to pick by face.... tab through if needed.
  4. Now set what you are doing - sweep - extrusion - whatever - and create your form.
  5. You can join the multiple elements before closing the family.
