is there any way to rotate an extrusion perpendicular to its original workplane?

I'm trying to create a domed roof with several ridge lines running vertically down it and thought the easiest method would be to create an extrusion, then create a radial array, but it won't let me do so due to the work plane being from the side and needing to rotate in a top down view.

thanks

We might be able to give you a better process if we knew a little more about your shape.  It sounds like you created your extrusion from a elevation or section view?  And then are trying to array that from a plan view, is that correct?  Are you trying to array the shape while still in the in-place family editor or did you finish the form and then try to array it?

Yeah that's pretty much the case ( I prefer to work in 3D but aligned the view to an elevation and plan respectively). I am trying to array while still in the editor as the family includes other pieces of stonework that I do not want arrayed

Well, again, without knowing much about the shapes you are using and the end-product you want, we can't suggest much on your process.  I will say that your work plane is part of the problem as well as working from 3D views.  After developing your first form, set the work plane to a plan plane before you try to do the array.
