There is a workflow that I have adopted from a large project where users reload latest before syncing with the central model. My experience with this process is that it can help keep the flow with team and not lock up the model as often. A fringe benefit I’ve seen is that it has minimized errors that users get when just synchronizing. Has anyone ever used this method and found it to be smoother or take longer, or anything else? Thanks.

Not sure what the advatages are that you claim.

I break up the process only when I don't want to publish my work.   But even then, I don't reload latest.   I may not publish if I want to be able to undo.  Maybe I'm looking a modifying something and waiting for feedback.   I'll save locally but not to central and I don't reload latest because I want to maintain the undo possibilities.

We do have multiple offices and working over the network can be slow.   In that case, we save to central at reduced intervals or only when someone needs us to.  Otherwise we save locally at our normal intervals.

I doubt you really have lock ups.... poor name - you just have the syncing postponed because of other users access.  If you do have a lot of users on the same project, you can encourage them to save locally and sync with central at scheduled times....

Lock up - I guess it's a poor graphic on the part workshare monitor then (Key waiting to turn)! That's an excellent point about the undo aspect. However, there has been a case where user models being incompatible was solved by first reloading latest and then syncing. We have a large team in the model (>20) so the regular interval strategy has some problems (hearding cats). Another advantage is the reload is a kind of warning to others in the workshare telling people someone is about to sync. The reduced time of reloading latest versus syncing helps unclog the queue as well if someone syncs at the same time as someone else. I'm trying to figure out a way to keep everything moving with fewer access issues.
