So i'm having this issue recently where i go to the properties drop down menu with the slide bar (best way i can describe it) and it doesn not show all of the familys i have loaded into the project. This happens after having Revit running for a while. If i restart the program they come back again for a few hours, maybe a day. Is there some sort of bug in Version 3 of Revit 2013 that is causing this? Has anyone come across this same thing? It's just pretty annoying have to start and restart the program when i am right in the middle of a thought, which i know you all can understand. Here is an example, i go to "door", then to the properties box to try and select the door i want to put in there. say a single interior door. well, the slide bar goes about halfway through the doors i have loaded and then stops before i get to the door that i want that is typically the last on the list. If i restart, and open up the same project, it works just fine. And this is also not a project file specific occurance, it happens across the board... Anyway, any commentary would be helpful if any of you have come across this annoying situation before. Thanks in advance.

This is more than likely a memory / operating system problem. Because of the limitations of the systems we were using just a few years ago, we always shut down Revit completely at least once a day. Revit had what is called a 'memory leak'. Not all memory is returned for use after you close a revit view.
2013 was the worst edition of Revit. If possible - move up!

Couple of items...
1. Is that why revit will creep up to like 10 gigs of RAM? This the leak that you speak of?
2. My only question on this response, is why did this problem just start happening? (The memory item from #1 has always happened if i left it on) But this properties box thing just started happening a few weeks ago after 2.5 years.
I appreciate the quick response, and if the start / restart thing is the only way to go then so be it. i'll just have to get in the habit of doing it more often when i am not right in the middle of a creative epiphany!
I just thought there might be a hotfix for it or something. Maybe upgrading is that very thing... Time to break out the penny jar.

Yes - the leak is why the memory use will creep up over time. If you use the worksharing monitor you can see this happen and close before it becomes a problem.
Memory usage is dependent on your process and project. If you are opening lots of windows and doing a lot of 3D manipulation, Revit will leak more memory.
