I am trying to model lofted and non-planar ceiling designs with linework to indicate planks, tiles etc. Initially I started with in-place components importing models from other programs. Using this method, I am able to give the object a material but cannot get a model line hatch in the material to show up. I then moved on to in-place conceptual masses. I am able to model the forms and apply materials to the surfaces and get linework for their surface patterns (this is true for imported cad as well while in a conceptual mass), however I cannot rotate or move the model lines without causing the form to change.I'm next thinking of using a pattern component family to model the linework, the problem is I haven't found a method of using the pattern component family and applying a material to the mass. Has anyone had any success applying material (with surface patterns) to imported, or, non-planar in-place conceptual masses? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Sketch draw a ceiling in plan using the ceiling tool in Revit. Use the option to give the ceiling a slope. This provides the 3D geometry you need.

For 2D & 3D linework, give the ceiling finish a model pattern that suits (not a drafting pattern). You will be able to adjust the lines to suit.
