I would like my spot elevations (in plan) to be a little more compact.

So I made a copy of the spot elevation target family and scaled it down. Also I made masking areas for the white quadrants to make the symbol opaque. Then, in the type properties for my spot elevation, I set the symbol to use my new family.

All is good, except that the crosshairs are still the original size. Damned if I can work out where it picks the crosshair dimensions from. Any suggestions?

Try scaling down the Spot Elevation-Crosshair family and see if that works!

I can't see a crosshair anywhere in my families.

Actually, I just tried creating a new project and it has a Spot Elevation - Crosshair family, so this is something I have purged from my projects at some point.

If I try to edit this family there is nothing there to scale - it is a blank symbol basically. Clearly the crosshair is not part of the symbol.

Okay, I have achieved something close to what I wanted by setting the symbol to "none" and the leader arrowhead to "filled elevation target 4mm" and then changing the arrowhead settings to make the arrowhead 2mm instead of 4mm. I would still like to know how I can control the crosshairs on the spot elevation because a) the white part of the target arrowhead is not a mask and b) it is faster to place spot elevations without a leader
