Hello guys,

What I'm trying to do is to calculate an element mass using instance family parameter “Weight”. If I create a column and place it into the model, Revit automatically calculates the “Volume” of the object. I have also added two family parameters to the column - one for mass density –“MassDensity” and one for the element weight – “Weight”.

I know that this could be done by using schedules but in this particular situation I need this value to be in my family instance parameters. So could someone think of an idea of how I could do that.

You probably will not be able to do this except in a schedule.  Calculations in families from project determined information is just not available for our use.  Consequently we can't tag items with information like what you want except if it is already provided by the system.  << Room areas is an example of in-place data being available.  And in some families, Revit was improved to allow for reporting parameters but those are severly limited.  You can read about those here:

I suppose you could if you knew two things.  Volume and weight and multiplied in a schedule (or excel)  We did this to figure out how much some fill dirt would weigh pressing down and against the building.  Used a mass family.
