I was always under the assumption from the first time I learned Revit, you wait to create a Central file until multiple people start working in the model.

I was doing this with a project in pre-design, and recently was signed off and now people went to access the file before it was made into a Central File. Some people were confused because it wasn’t called “Central”. Then a lengthy debate about office standards and Revit best practices ensued and some people suggesting that immediately we create a Central File as soon as we create a file even in the earliest stages of design.

Is there any problems with doing it this way?

There are many advantages to enabling work sharing so for most projects, the sooner you enable, the better off you are.

This is especially true if you seperate some of your model elements into different worksets.  We always do all exterior 'shell' elements in a 'shell' workset in order to show only these elements in renders and elevations.  You can always seperate them later but it is easier to pay attention to this from the beginning.

Some 'projects' don't need work sharing.  Our site is usually in a seperate, non-shared project because multiple people don't need to work in it at the same time.
