Greetings.

I am using the standard pile cap families out of the box from revit. I needed them to have 18" diameter piles.  I went into the family and modified the pile extrusion to show that radius and loaded them into the cap family and updated it to show the new diameter.  I then loaded the complete family into the project and the piles now shoot upwards through the slab. I have checked all the settings and they are all still the same except for the diameter.  Why does changing the diameter cause this?

Thanks

Sean

The pile family I have has a nested pile family - not an extrusion in the pile cap family so what did you do?

Their are multiple types of the nested pile family in your library so just load the correct type and switch the types in your pile cap family.

I was using the pile cap family that comes with revit. Seems as long as you do not edit the diameter of the pile extrusions there isnt any issue.  As soon as you modify the extrusion with a new diameter it causes the piles to shoot up through the cap instead of remaining below.  I checked the parameters of the extrusion and they were no different than previously except for the diameter of the pile.  Makes no sense why this would happen.

Sorry but unless you are using a different Revit than 2012,13,14,15 .....then you are not using a stock family.

My images are Revit 2014

Either you are NOT using the standard family or you are deleting and replacing what was provided.   Look at the attached image of the 2015 family.   The piles are a nested family - change the type!

I am having the same issue as discussed in this thread and I followed these instructions.  The out of the box family only had 20" diameter piles.  So I added a new type to the nested family for the 2-7/8" diamter piles we are utlitizing.  Load that into the project and select the 2-7/8" type in the pile cap properties.  I am using a 3 pile cap and 1 of the 3 piles now goes upwards instead of downwards. When I change back to the 20" diamter all three caps are going downward as they should.  Any idea what has casued this?  Using 2015 Revit.

I was able to fix it by just deleting the one pile that wasn't working and copying one of the other ones.
