I am in a structural office enviroment where the scope of a project is relatively small compering to the size of the architectural model. My question would be to find the most efficinet way to handle this. Since it is a small area of work, I dont' think it is a good idea to copy the entire modle into my file after I link the archtecural model in. I am new to this situation and would like to hear from those who has had smilar prjects before. thanks for any suggestions. vik

Why would uou "...copy the entire modle into my file after I link the archtecural model in..."?   The architectural file is there - no reason to copy.   We don't know what you are trying to do beyond that.   If you need, you can use copy-monitor to copy items into your file that you need to modify and control.   In VG, under links, you can turn off architectural model categories you don't want.

I guess, I don't need to copy everything, I agree. I think I would copy and monitor only items around the work area (things like walls, floors) and model my new structural items in there (sort of a partial plan) . The trick is if this partial work area happens at multiple locations throughout the building. How would you handle that?

I think you are still stuck in a CAD thought process.

You only need to copy/monitor items you need to control!  Otherwise many of the architectural items will work for you.

So - if you are not cutting holes in the floor or similar work, then just use the architectural floor.   If you will be putting a hole in a wall then copy/monitor that wall and independently, turn off just that one wall in the architect's model in each view where it shows.

Remember - you can control the extent of a view using the view crop region.  You might have multiple first floor plans with each cropped to the small area you are working in.   BUT THE WHOLE MODEL IS STILL THERE.

Sorry, I have been crazy busy these days. Anyways, i think I'm following your logic now. In fact I have tryed to do just what you say and it does make sence, thanks. So, when I send my file back to the arch, they are going to link my model back to theirs to check elements I have modified, sweet!
