If I have a Revit project with some custom edited components (windows, doors, walls, roofs, components, etc.) is there a way to save those to a .rfa file so I can load them into another project?

If by custom edited you mean you edited the families in the family editor, then just pick them to edit and do a save as....you better rename them so they don't over-write your library items.
