Good afternoon, dear experts!
Please, help!
I am trying to create a 2D family – like, for instance a well-known 2D toilet, but with more parametric elements.
Could anyone please advise WHICH TEMPLATE I should select to have “Filled region” and “Detail line” tools availablefor design?
Where and how should I create DETAIL ITEMS to insert them into my new family?
How to create a Detail Item family?
Thank you.

Not sure if this is the best way to do it but this is how I have done it in the past:
Use either of your plumbing fixture template family files (wall based or non-wall based - depending on how you would like the item to be hosted in your project)
Use Symbolic lines to draw the item you would like to create
- > by using symbolic lines, this item will only show up when the view has a cut plane
OR
Alternatively use model lines to draw the item you would like to create
- > by using model lines, the item will show up (in a 2D format) in all views in your project
As far as I know you're not able to create filled regions in a family. If necessary, create an extrusion 5mm high off the floor level so that your item has a "solid fill" when adding to a project.
Hope this helps.

Hi Raja15;
thank you for your help.
Unfortunately, I had no access to the RevitCity website for some time.
As I understand, there no such a thing in Revit as 2D family which does not have 3rd dimension.
It looks like all 2D families are the same regular families, where volume components do not exist but in which you can create them.
I thought there might be a category of 2D families which work like detail components but are families, not components, creating which you could use all the arsenal of drafting tools.
Please let me know what you think about it.
It is a great idea with model lines! I will use it for sure!
