Hi,I am having a problem with linking Revit files that I haven't come across before. We are trying to link the Architectural model into our file but when its loaded all we can see are wireframe boxes and a few walls. I've attached a screenshot of what we see. Would anyone know what the issue could be?We are running Revit Architecture 2015 on Windows 7 proThanks in advanceP

Look at your view properties - discipline.  Change that setting.

Changing the discipline has no effect, although changing to electrical crops some of the boxes.

One of the things I tried in desparation was to link the file into a Revit template (.rte) and for some reason it appears correctly when I do this. But I am unable to save as to a project file once this is done.

If it links into a template, then a setting is wrong in your file - something wrong in your process.

Make sure you don't have any view template assigned to your 3D view and turn on everything.

Are you using worksets?   There could be other issues if you are.

What discipline are you in?

Ok so I got it working but I dont understand the logic behind it.

When I go to visibility graphics -> Revit Links, the display settings is set to "by host view".

I change it to "by linked view" and click apply.

Then change it to custom and manually change all the drop-downs to "by host view" and click apply. Now everything shows as it should.

If I dont do it in this order it doesnt work. I've only really been using Revit for a year or so but things like this continue to boggle me.

Thanks for your help and quick replies.

P

You should not have to go through the hoops you have....  We have been using for many years and have never seen your problem.

If you have a view template applied, it might typically be set to "by host view" for links and that should be fine.   The linked elements will show if the are on in VG of the host view. In most cases, I like to control the linked file 'custom' so that I can turn off some of it's items independent of the host view.  And I like to make these settings in a View Template so that they can be used in multiple views and that they remain as set. (Or purposely modified)

There is no need to switch back and forth so something else happened here.
