I'm using Revit 2015 but I don't think it makes a difference in my problem. Instead of opening my structural model and linking the architect's model by using Auto-Origin to Origin like I have for the past 6 years the architect gave me these steps to follow.
1. 1. Open the Architect’s model. (this model hosts the projects shared coordinates.)
2. Link your new structural model file.
a. Use manual by base point in a plan view.
b. Report coordinates for level referencing.
c. Move to align elevation.
3. 3. Move your linked file in plan and rotate, as required.
4. 4. Publish coordinates of your new model’s location.
How does this create a structural model? If I open the architect's model first and link my structural model that means my structural model can not be edited; it's the linked model. Since I have never started a project like this can someone tell me if the architect got the models reversed in his instructions or could the linking be done in a easier method that he has recommended. Thanks in advance.

He is only doing this to get the coordinates in your model. Step 5 is close the architect's model and open yours.
Watch this video for another way:

WWHub,
Thanks for your reply. So if I publish my coordinates in step 4 and close the arch's model those coordinates were saved in my model that was linked?? So when I open my model and link the architect's model what should I use Auto-Origin to Origin??
