I placed a simple rectangular concrete slab with two vertical gridlines and two horizontal gridlines.

I placed the slab with an offset of 300mm and locked the offsets to the gridline.

When I attempt to modify the distance between the gridlines I get the error message "constraints not satisfied"

The slab behaves as if there is a constraint on the overall width of the slab and not just on the offset from the gridlines.

Can someone explain the logic of this behaviour?

You need to constraint the slab edges in the sketch mode.
