As I'm starting to model simplier steel frames with bracing  then I would like to have a bit of informatsion first.

Should I model the connection plates and bolts into the steel beam and column family of I should add them by connection elements by hand?

I understand that I could do different variations and changing their visibility but is it worth the efford?

To summarize, what is the best practise

a. make separate elements which I add into the beams and columns later on (takes time and not so innteligent)

b. Integrate them into the beams and columns and simply play with the visibility setting (takes model a bit bigger)

Not an Autodesk Subscriber, so no detailing tools for me.

Thank you guys

if there is no requirement to model plates and bolts (3D), i would suggest to use detail components (2D).

it can also be parametric, constrained and therefore intelligent.

you can also integrate detail components into beams and columns and play with the visibility
