I'm helping out a firm with some Revit work. I've had a request to look into a ceiling that they got from the manufacturer (9 Wood). It's a wood slat ceiling system, each slat is a seperate extrusion in the family. The family is work plane based so you need to have a reference plane set up. The problem is they can't get it to host any recessed lighting.
I've played with it for about 45 minutes and I'm getting nowhere. They (and I) have tried making a seperate work place for the fixtures, which does nothing (it did work for the surface mounted fixtures, tho). But I'm curious if anyone else has had this problem and has a possible solution.
I think that the problem is 2-fold. 1, I feel like since the ceiling is work plane based, that messes up the host for the lighting. It doesn't recognize the ceiling as an acceptable host when you try to use the lighting family. And 2. the individual slats are making it difficult/impossible to cut. Surely it's possible tho, right?
Anyone know? Are my guesses even close to being right? Thank you in advance.

I would not use that family. A simple ceiling with the appropriate material is far better.
