This isn't really a Revit situation, but since this is a "General Discussion" forum, here goes... From time to time, I get "corrections" from plan checkers asking me for items that are not even required by Code. For example, frequently I get requested to provide the make, model and ICBO number for a prefabricated fireplace I show on the plans, even though I have a notation at the fireplace that says, "Prefabricated fireplace with ICBO approval, install as per mfr.". My response to the plan checker for such requests is, "Not a Code requirement" as my notation is sufficient. There is no requirement in the Code that we must provide the make and model of the fireplace, only that any such fireplace shall be ICBO approved. Sometimes I would be asked to show my shear walls and holddowns on the floor or roof framing plan, even though they are already on the floor plan, which is my style. Since they have no authority to tell a licensed design professional such as myself how to draw my plans, (the Code only requires that the information IS on the plans) my response to such a request is, "Not a Code requirement (to show on framing plans); already shown on Floor Plans. In Arizona, where I am also licensed, it is a State requirement that any plan checker corrections are backed up by a code reference. I don't think California has such a law. One of the most memorable "corrections" is when I did a set of plans for San Diego County in my pre-Revit days, by hand. I put on a 'stickyback' Title 24 (energy form) sideways as that was the only way I could fit it on the sheet. The plan checker had a "correction" that read, "Please put Title 24 form right-side up so it is readable". LOL Of course, my response was a gentle and respectful, "Not a Code requirement". This may be extreme, but one time I got in an argument with a plan checker that kept demanding that I show certain items on my plans in the way she preferred instead of the way I do it. I asked her for a Code reference to back up her demands, and she yelled at me, "BECAUSE I AM THE PLAN CHECKER!". And then my response to that was calmly, "Code reference, please, that just because she was the plan checker she could tell a licensed architect how to draw my plans?". LOL Last I heard, she got fired. Any funny stories out there that you'd like to share? JOHN
