Alright, I feel like I'm missing a major step here so hopefully someone can help me out.  You can see I am trying to make an undulating multi-profiled chair backrest. It has been modeled in CAD as the pic shows.

(As I trial run I did a much simpler version than the exact object.)

First, I made a Reference Line using the spline option.

Second I adjusted the height and location of each of the nodes to be similar to the CAD backrest.

Third I chose the first, middle, and last nodes to be "made adaptive" using the tool of the same name.

Fourth, I placed the desired profiles (which is also an adaptive family loaded in) at those nodes and selected "Create Form".

Fifth, I failed miserably.

I know I am screwing something up because just using simple paths and profiles isn't working either. So what am I doing wrong?

I think what happened was you didn’t put your profiles on the correct AP’s ref plane. The profile has to be perpendicular to the path. Ref point has 3 x,y,z ref planes and one that is perpendicular to the path. It is easy to pick the wrong one, but if you select your ref/adaptive point and check ‘Show Normal Reference Plane Only’ in the properties, the only correct (perpendicular to the path) plane will be visible – much easier that way. Hope it helps.

If still no luck, can you upload you file?

I did what you said and still got the same result. Thinking maybe it was my file, I tried this process using a brand new AC family. Same result...

THEN, I tried drawing the profiles rather than using AC families as the profiles (as I had seen in a different link). That was the difference!

Worked like a charm once I oriented those profiles to the axis like you said. Thanks so much!

Now, if only we could eliminate those lines and just have it be a "soft" looking surface... Revit wishlist!
