I recently created a post on my blog with a link to an example revit project which uses a snazzy pile cap family. Check it out...
http://www.plaintools.net/free-pcfam-vert-proj-tutorial/
Interesting things about the family:
1)Reduced Data input... the pile cap plan dimensions can be defined with three pieces of info... pile diameter, spacing factor, and pile capacity.
2) Getting suggested design information from the pile cap. The pile cap will report suggested thickness and edge distances based on CRSI information. BUT, the user still have
3) Driving instance parameters of nested families with parameters in the host cap family
4) Calculated tension and compression capacities. More data available from the model component.
