I can open up i_rvt_Cohouse.rvt tutorial plan which is shown in Creating the Interior Perspective View tutorial, select and insert Recssed Can lighting into the ceiling plan. However, when I go back to my own project, I can select the Recessed Can lighting, I cannot drop it onto the ceiling plan. What am I doing wrong??

When inserting lighting, first you must make sure that you have a tag loaded and available on the project. I use ceiling plan you must establish workplane at ceiling which is often different from other planes available. Once you have selected your lighting can the ribbon on the far right has a button "place on workplane". At the sub-ribbon you are allowed to select the differing workplanes. Usually I name the workplanes "bathroom ceiling" "kithen ceiling" "bottom of kitchen cabinets" etc.
