I have window elevations where I hide the casing (trim) around the window with the linkwork tool using <invinsible> lines. and it seems as though next next I have to open the project the lines that I hide with the linework tool have reverted back.

I have never seen that happen.

Remember, the linework tool is 2D and view dependent.  ONLY the view it was used in.  Also, you may have multiple elements in the same place.  Typically you will make the one invisible and then the next one shows.  NOTE - If you change the view depth, other elements may show up in the same place.

I havent changed a thing relating to the view. I will use the linework tool and save & close and the next time I open the project the lines are back from being invisible

SInce you have not shared what Revit and what updates you have installed, you have probably wasted some time.  This is probably an update issue.

Create the smallest file you can with a wall and the window in it - purge and compress then test to see if you still have the problem.  If so, then post the file so we can look at it.
